Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Our founder and visionary, Ben guides Fortified Data’s service direction and oversees the company’s Professional Services business unit. He is an experienced consultant who has advised customers of all sizes on their mission critical applications and SQL Server deployments. His versatility allows him to assist with everything from virtualization and consolidation to schema design, performance tuning, disk architectures, and everything in between. Ben has designed, deployed and optimized some of the largest and most complex SQL Server solutions in the world for clients like JP Morgan, Allstate, Cayan, Heartland Payment Systems and the Royal Bank of Canada.
An active member of the SQL Server community, Ben has presented at several industry thought leadership events. Ben is a certified South Carolina BBQ Judge, and when he’s not solving complex data challenges for global enterprises, also enjoys hiking, biking and golf.
Director of Managed Services
Denis McDowell is responsible for growing Fortified Data’s Managed Service business. Denis brings great technical and business experience, having worked with Microsoft server technologies for nearly 20 years. A SQL Server MCITP, his focus is on SQL Server data platforms, virtualization, availability, and optimization. Denis has extensive experience building private/public cloud architectures using VMWare ESX and also maintains his SharePoint MCITP certification. He is a frequent speaker at SQL Server User Groups and his SQL as a Service architecture was featured in the Microsoft Hosting Partner Video Series. Prior to Fortified Data, Denis designed enterprise solutions for Microsoft, SQL Sentry, and Peak 10 Datacenter Solutions.
Denis is passionate about music, and in his spare time, plays guitar and experiments with audio engineering.
Betsy Smith is responsible for Fortified Data’s Accounting and Human Resources departments. She has over 30 years of accounting and management experience in fields as diverse as retail, food service, transportation, manufacturing, construction and agriculture. She also brings extensive knowledge of payroll, insurance and human resources.
Betsy resides on her family farm and in her spare time, enjoys gardening, reading and needlework.
Senior Technology Consultant
Tim Sheehan is a multi-talented technologist with 10 years of experience on Oracle RAC running on Linux, UNIX, and Windows. He brings extensive experience performance tuning applications including those migrated to Oracle Exadata Machines. Sheehan also leverages his own development background to guide application developers through code changes to improve application performance.
Tim resides in Chicago and in his spare time enjoys traveling.
Keith Buck has extensive history as a developer and moved into the Database Administration 10 years ago. He enjoys helping clients improve their processes, reduce down time, and reduce operating expenses. In his spare time he loves to play ice hockey, golf, and go fishing.
Born and raised in Canada, Keith brings some geographic and cultural diversity to the team along with the Queen’s English and a pleasant accent.
Colleen Morrow is a database professional living in Cleveland, OH who has been working with database systems since 1996. For more than 12 years, she was a Database Administrator at a large law firm where she developed an appreciation for auditing, automation, and performance tuning. Since that time, Colleen has worked with clients in the healthcare, manufacturing, software, and distribution/freight delivery industries. She is an active member of the Ohio North SQL Server User Group and has presented at many SQLSaturday events as well as the PASS Summit.
Colleen enjoys reading, hiking, crossfit, baking, and power tools. She wishes she enjoyed gardening.
Senior Database Administrator
Chris started his database career in 1993. Chris has been writing and speaking about SQL Servers for over 15 years at events such as SQL Connections, Pass, and SSWUG Ultimate conferences. Chris received the Microsoft MVP award in 2009 and in 2016. He is the founding member of the Colorado Springs SQL Server User Group and has many featured articles. Most recently, Chris was a contributing author for CIO Magazine, working on the SQL Server 2005 Bible, SQL Server MVP Deep Dives Volume 2, and SQL Server 2012 Best Practices.
Nicole Harrington is a Consultant working on the Fortified Data’s Managed Services team. She has a background of nearly 15 years working with various database technologies in large-scale corporate environments including SQL Server and Oracle. Nicole focuses on process improvement and automation in her designs. Prior to Fortified Data, Nicole designed high-availability solutions for CB&I and implemented improvements to the SQL Server environment at Havi.

For nearly two decades, Jeremy has had a successful track record solving complex data and architecture design challenges for organizations large and small. From Fortune 100 corporations to start-ups, Jeremy has been a leader in implementing best practices while scaling some of the largest database implementations in the world. Ensuring data realization and helping business leaders access data in more meaningful ways is a driving factor for Jeremy. He is a strong advocate for bridging the gap between technologists and business leaders, speeding market decisions. Due to his success, many clients refer to Jeremy as a trusted advisor and rely on his judgement for strategic guidance.
